In the first half of 2023, the plywood industry exhibited a dual decline in both the number of enterprises and total production capacity.

As of the end of June 2023, there were over 9,800 plywood product manufacturing enterprises operating nationwide, distributed across 28 provincial-level regions, representing a decrease of nearly 1,000 enterprises compared to the end of 2022. The total production capacity was approximately 205 million cubic meters per year, a further reduction of 1.4% from the end of 2022.


The fiberboard industry showed a further decline in the number of enterprises, production lines, and total production capacity.

By the end of June, 287 fiberboard manufacturing enterprises nationwide operated 321 fiberboard production lines, distributed across 23 provincial-level regions. The total production capacity was 46.93 million cubic meters per year, a net decrease of 850,000 cubic meters per year, marking a 1.8% decline from the end of 2022.


The particleboard industry experienced a decline in the number of enterprises and production lines, while total production capacity continued to rise.
Nationwide, 53 particleboard production lines were under construction, with a combined production capacity of 17.64 million cubic meters per year, indicating increasing risks of overheated investment in the particleboard sector. By the end of June, 290 particleboard manufacturing enterprises operated 306 particleboard production lines, distributed across 22 provincial-level regions. The total production capacity reached 43.75 million cubic meters per year, a net increase of 2.27 million cubic meters per year, reflecting a growth of 5.5% compared to the end of 2022.
