The structure of Chinas plywood product exports exhibits distinct characteristics, with hardwood plywood playing a dominant role overall. In recent years, its average annual export volume has approached 10 million cubic meters. This is followed by softwood plywood, with an average annual export volume of approximately 1 million cubic meters. The export volume of blockboard exceeds that of bamboo plywood and laminated veneer lumber.

In 2022, China exported 9.0267 million cubic meters of hardwood plywood, accounting for 84.62% of the total export volume. Softwood plywood exports amounted to 1.1381 million cubic meters, making up 10.67% of the total. Blockboard exports reached 366,800 cubic meters, representing 3.44%. Bamboo plywood exports totaled 100,500 cubic meters, accounting for 0.94%, while laminated veneer lumber exports were 34,900 cubic meters, making up 0.33%.

Over the past two years, the average export unit price of ordinary plywood from China has ranged between USD 400 and USD 500 per cubic meter. The export unit price of hardwood plywood is slightly higher than that of softwood plywood. Blockboard holds the highest export unit price among plywood products, reaching USD 1,398.63 per cubic meter in 2022, a year-on-year increase of 16.35%. Chinas bamboo plywood exports mainly consist of engineered bamboo flooring and container flooring. Despite a growth in export volume in 2022, the export unit price declined from USD 944.27 per cubic meter in 2021 to USD 784.89 per cubic meter in 2022, a decrease of 16.88%.

From this, it is evident that the disparity in the unit prices of hardwood plywood imports and exports is primarily attributed to two factors. First, hardwood plywood imports include a significant proportion of high-priced engineered wood flooring, whereas exports, while also containing some engineered wood flooring, are dominated by lower-priced plywood. Second, the unit price of ordinary plywood exported from China is inherently lower than that of imported ordinary plywood.
